First off, I'd like to inform everyone that I am hitting my 6-month-mark this Friday. That's right. 6 months. I can barely believe it! 1/3 of the way through my mission! That's a huge chunk, and it went by so fast! In about a year, I'll be coming home. Wow. . .
Secondly, YES. I have more crazy big news. I was definitely expecting something coming, but only because of the interview I had with President. Still, I didn't guess what was happening. President Packard called us Thursday night, the night before transfer texts, and extended a calling to both of us. TRAINERS. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness, we're both training!!!!!!! I'm TRAINING! 6 months in, and I'm going to show a greenie how we do missionary work in the MBM! And I'm staying right here, in good old Central Falls, while Sister Godoy leaves and re-opens Providence for Spanish sisters. What the--! And that's not all. This greenie is BRAZILIAN. Both of the Elders are staying in our ward, so that means I'm going to be outnumbered 3-1 as the only American, the only missionary who has English as their first language. HA! Maybe I'll have to learn Portuguese. . . But I'm excited. This ward definitely could use a Portuguese-speaking sister. There's no better place for someone to start off their mission!
Let's see. . . I'll go through some other news! We locked ourselves out of our apartment. Twice, in fact. In one week. That takes skill.
Ooh, we taught Seminary early Thursday morning. That was fun. Tough crowd, and I am so grateful that Seminary was part of my school day.
Sister Godoy had another root canal appointment, so we took the long drive up to Connecticut and back. :) Road trip! I was so sick of the car!
We had Zone meeting on Friday! Greatest Zone Meeting ever! Our leaders are awesome and the spirit was really strong. I learned a lot and re-committed to be the best missionary I can! I fall short in so many ways, but I'm gonna keep trying. That's all I can do.
As far as investigators go, 4 more this week! That leaves us with. . . 22 investigators! I think . . . It's ridiculous, how prepared people are out here. We had some incredible experiences teaching the Restoration this week. One was with Tiffany, Crystal's sister. She was very focused and intent on everything we had to say. She really wants God to be a part of her children's lives, and she has so many unanswered questions. We taught and testified to the best of our ability, gave her a Book of Mormon, and left. She started reading from the beginning that night. YESSSS!!!! So cool! Amy was another neat experience! She's Angelique's mom. We're teaching Angelique, and we invited her mom to come sit with us. She's a tattoo artist, very young, and really cool. She has so been prepared for this as well. She totally GOT priesthood authority. Nailed it. She's reading the Introduction to the Book of Mormon and she said she's really interested in coming to church!
Also, an investigator from Franklin moved into our ward. She's 19 and stinking cute! Cape Verdian. Her name is Carla. I can't wait for her--she already has a testimony and plans on being baptized.
I better get off pretty soon, because we have to go say goodbye to Jocelyn. :( Crazy that she's heading out on her mission. I'm so proud of her. And she's never coming back to Rhode Island. Wow. This is a big big big step in her life! Please keep her in your prayers!
I love you all so much! Thanks for everything you do for me!!!! Pray for my new companion, flying in from the MTC tomorrow!
Love,
Sister Merkley
MBM Missionary
P.S. It's my niece's birthday tomorrow, my mom's birthday on the 13th, and Lovely is getting baptized Sunday! WAHOO!!!
